Where the wind resource is.

SEAI’s modelled mean wind speed at 50 metres above ground, based on 2001–2010 conditions. This is a long-term resource map, not today’s weather or a project forecast.

How to read this map

Speeds are in metres per second. The source height is 50 metres above ground. Modern turbines may operate at different heights and locations; this map is not a prediction of their output or a substitute for a site assessment.

The original model covers 2001–2010. The published bulk data was last modified on 23 July 2021; newer catalogue metadata does not make the underlying model newer. We transformed the source coordinates from Irish Transverse Mercator (EPSG:2157), simplified the polygons and sampled an approximately 1–2 km display grid. The derivative is deliberately less detailed than the original.

The selected value comes from that display grid. A filtered-out cell still has its original lookup value; a blank cell has no value. No missing area is filled with an invented estimate.
